Description

Electrosurgical or Electrocautery or Diathermy Units

Electrosurgery is the application of a high-frequency (radio frequency) alternating polarity, electrical current to biological tissue to cut, coagulate, desiccate, or fulgurate the tissue.

Electrocautery uses heat conduction from a probe heated to a high temperature by a direct electrical current (much in the manner of a soldering iron).

Diathermy is electrically induced heat or the use of high-frequency electromagnetic currents as a form of physical therapy and in surgical procedures.

These devices are frequently used during surgical operations by sealing bleeding blood vessels and as a result helping to minimise blood loss
